Celebrating a Greener Oregon - In the Spirit of Green!!

The Oregon Green Expo at the Medford Armory. Oregon has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to Green products and services. Some of the largest alternative energy projects in the country are underway in Oregon and thousands of new and existing businesses offer Green products and services. The Oregon Green Expo will provide the opportunity to match Green businesses and organizations with the growing number of environmentally-conscious consumers. The Oregon Green Expo is a four day event, held on the peak summer week of the 4th of July, at the Medford Armory, in beautiful Southern Oregon.

To bring together stakeholders who are passionate about green industries and jobs, and form long term partnerships to develop Green Business and Green Social Networking in Southern Oregon. To collaborate and empower Southern Oregon businesses, organizations and individuals to create new businesses, new jobs, become sustainably independent and promote the region’s products and services locally and globally. Who is eligible to exhibit?

The Oregon Green Expo and Exhibitors must meet at least one of the following environmental sustainability criteria:
  • Energy efficient / Renewable energy
  • Conserves / Protects water and/or air
  • Less toxic / Plant-based
  • Locally / Regionally produced
  • Reduces waste
  • Durable / Reusable
  • Recycled content
  • Organic (but not certified)
  • Certified (by USDA Organic; Energy Trust, Energy Star; Earth Advantage, Fair Trade; FSC; Food Alliance; LEED; NAHB Certification, other)
  • Educational / Promotes environmental values

We finally chose The Hunger Project, a U.S.-based nonprofit that works with villagers in Africa, Asia, and South America and helps them move from poverty to self-reliance. Our funds specifically went to pay for building two epicenters -- each containing a meeting place, a bank for microloans, a food-storage facility, and a health clinic. Together, the hubs would serve more than 20 villages in eastern Ghana. To complete our year of change, we traveled to meet the villagers and were blown away by their industriousness and warmth.
