RESOURCE CENTER - Portland, Oregon USA

Portland, Oregon:

Portland is a city located in the Northwestern United States, near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers in the state of Oregon. As of July 2008, it has an estimated population of 557,706 making it the 29th most populous in the United States.[5] It has been referred to as the most environmentally friendly or "green" city in the United States, and the 2nd most in the world.[6] Portland is Oregon's most populous city, and the third most populous city in the Pacific Northwest, after Vancouver, British Columbia, and Seattle, Washington. Approximately two million people live in the Portland metropolitan area (MSA), the 23rd most populous in the United States as of July 2006.[7]

Portland was incorporated in 1851 and is the county seat of Multnomah County.[8] The city extends slightly into Washington County to the west and Clackamas County to the south. It is governed by a commission-based government headed by a mayor and four other commissioners. The city and region are noted for strong land-use planning[9] and investment in light rail, supported by Metro, a distinctive regional-government. Portland is known for its large number of microbreweries and microdistilleries, and its coffee fanaticism. It is also the home of the Trail Blazers NBA team. Portland lies in the Marine west coast climate region, marked by warm, dry summers and rainy but temperate winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and for more than a century, Portland has been known as "The City of Roses"[10][11] with many rose gardens—most prominently the International Rose Test Garden. Establishing A Portland Resource Center:

For those of you living in Portland I began building the Cascadian Resource Center fifteen years ago throughout the Pacific Northwest including founding the first time-dollar based alternative currency system - the Cascadia HOUR. I'd like to begin this resource center project again with your help, support and passionate cooperation with a particular focus on the metropolitan Portland area.

Take a look at what we've built in our hometown of Ashland, Oregon with the Ashland Resource Center.

For the last three years we've built a "Resource Center 3.0" platform and business model to support the local and regional development of resource centers for communications and networking, interdependence and economic self–reliance, and we'd like to offer this to the entire Portland area community and the Pacific Northwest.

In many important ways this platform is more advanced than Facebook and is focused on building and strengthening community locally. But we don't have the market capitalization of Facebook so we'll require our members and sponsors to put up the capital in small bites to afford to deploy this ASAP. There is no time more critical than now!

What's Next?

So we're looking for the first twelve "Associate" members ($48/month), the first 24 "Business" members ($24/month) and the first 100 "Community" members ($12/month) to make this feasible ASAP.

If we can get enough commitments we'll come back in three months and facilitate the Portland Resource Center development and turn it over to a local ORGANIZING TEAM to operate.

That's our current vision and proposal for building and deploying these worldwide. Become a member today!

The Shift Has Hit the Fan And All Heaven Has Broken Loose. The shift has hit the fan. And all heaven has broken loose. You say, “Heaven?? Where the hell do you see heaven?” And yes. If you look at the news headlines from the past year, you’d have a hell of a time finding any heaven. It’s a dogma-eat-dogma world out there, and everyone seems caught up in the bipolar insanity. Even Poland is polarized – the North Poles and the South Poles. We talk about peace in the Middle East and we can’t even make peace in the Middle West. Here in America, we have a deeply divided body politic. Half the population believes our election system is broken. The other half believes it is fixed.

Afghanistan, Military Budget, Iran and Israel: Update | Tikkun Magazine

Earlier today, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced that the US will seek to end its combat missions in Afghanistan as early as “mid-2013.” This important announcement is a welcome development in the right direction towards ending more than a decade-old US war in Afghanistan. A shift away from combat operations will reduce the risk to US forces while acknowledging that there simply is no military solution to the challenges faced in Afghanistan. When combined with recent reports indicating progress in a political peace process, it is apparent that US policymakers are finally hearing the clear will of the American people who want to bring our troops home now and end the US war in Afghanistan.
